The Howling -- Wolfpack Weekly Update (July 20, 2026)
July 20, 2026
Howls
Howl out to Matt "Jiffy" Lubiak who finished 15th M55-59 at IronMan Lake Placid which places him in 142 Age Graded Overall Male Lake Placid is a race I've done 5 times (It's a great course for Chris and awful for me) and is such a hard and super competitive race. He capped off his race after doing the 7K' of elevation on the bike course with a 3:33 Marathon on a 1.5K' elevation run course. It is so hard... Really impressed at how good of a triathlete that Matt has become over the years and his ability to put those runs together due to the marked improvement he's achieved as a rider!
At the New Jersey State Sprint Tri, Howl out to Lisa "She-Wolf" Rosynsky who placed 5th F40-44 which included an extra 2 minutes of fumbling with her bike shoe as she accidentally pulled off the strap on it and couldn't get it back in. Next time, just put it on and go. :)
At Tri-Boulder, we had a whole bunch of Wolfpack racers show up looking super-slick in their kits!
Howl out to Kabir "Kaboom" Ghale who for the first time ever broke 3 hours at an Olympic Triathlon (Note that the bike is 2 miles longer than the traditional 40K course for Olympic Tris) finishing with a 2:53 and 9th in M35-39. Bike Split was 6th fastest in his age group which is very impressive given the folks that are in it.
Howl out to Allen "The Animal" Corona who raced the Beast Distance (2K Swim, 50 Mile Bike, 9.3 Mile Run) where he placed 3rd M30-34. Then forgot to show-up for Awards...
Also at the Beast distance, Howl out to Mary "The Mtn Goat" Hofteizer who had the 4th fastest bike split of the field and won her F60-64 age group. That run was so hot. Chris and I did the sprint and stood in the shade during awards it was so hot. And that was at 9:30 am. Mary (and Allen) were out there in the early afternoon... Oh my!
Chris Kachinsky returned to racing triathlons after her shoulder surgery last September and won the F55-59 AG (8th Overall Female) at the Sprint Triathlon which was also the Colorado/Wyoming State Championships.
Also at the Sprint, I won the M55-59 AG and was a State Champion. I placed 8th Overall (I spent about 30+ seconds trying to find my bike coming out of the water as I couldn't remember where I racked. I was so spaced out I thought someone stole it. It was bad. That and my confused T2 which was another 10 seconds of running around clueless cost we 5th Overall. Sadly, Chris made a comment to go back and line up her rack position and I blew it off. Dumbass...) I did the Sprint as I wanted to get to 26 mph average for the 17 mile bike course which has been a goal of mine (Got 25.6 mph) and have been wanting to go sub-40 minutes for that course (ended up 40:24). But was cool that I had the fastest bike split by a couple minutes. Keep trying.
Bummed that Dave "Big Horn" Buchwald and Will "Big Angy Bird" Matthews weren't able to come. Boulder Sunset is in a few weeks guys.
I do want to throw an At-a-Boy to Allen "The Animal" Corona as he has IronMan WIsconsin coming up. I told Allen he needs to embrace the suck over the next 6 weeks as doing the iron distance is hard as the volume is so key to having a day one is happy with else it's a miserable slog (like my first IronMan in 2003 which was at Wisconsin where I finished just under 15 hours... I have all kinds of stories he is hearing about that day and my lack thereof prep for it that caused it). After the Beast Tri, Allen asked me, am I really to do a 90 Mile Ride tomorrow. I told him yeah as that's part of embracing the suck. It was like 95 degrees out (it was so hot, I passed out from just doing some yard work for a couple hours) and he did 60 miles outside before calling it quits. I told him, well, 90 more minutes on the Trainer will be nice and cool and he was already on it working to get it done. Hence -- "The Animal"!
As I keep saying, it is about the Start Line. Anyone can finish a race as there's plenty of time to do so, but the preparation for that Start Line where you can look around and think that you have out trained 90+ percent of these people makes the day fun!
Get Ready to Howl for Next Week's Racers!
RJ "The BoogeyMan" Boergers and Lisa "SheWolf" Rosynsky will be racing the Garden State Swim/Run and Chris and I are planning to do the Mt Blue Sky Climb.
